KYC: documents

Document verification broken into clear steps

Instead of one verdict about the document, verkyc runs separate checks: legibility, completeness, data extraction, the machine readable zone, field consistency and signs of editing. You see what was confirmed, what was not and why.

What is checked

  • Machine readable zone

Parsing of TD1, TD2 and TD3 MRZ under ICAO 9303 with check digit validation and correction of ambiguous characters.

  • Image quality

Resolution and exposure are checked during capture, so the applicant gets a hint before sending rather than a refusal afterwards.

  • Separate checks

Classification, legibility, completeness, data extraction, field consistency, optical features, signs of editing, capture channel.

  • Data with its source

Every field is linked to its source: the MRZ, recognised text or the chip. Differences between sources are shown, not hidden.

  • Expert review

Expert and senior expert roles, a queue and a workspace with data masking; revealing the original requires a stated reason.

  • Country profiles

The set of documents is defined by the country profile: type, generation, channel and purpose. A neighbouring country is never substituted.

What you get

The result of each document check with its outcome, reasons, algorithm version and links to the evidence. If a check did not run, the report says so plainly.

Extracted data is available in the API and the console, and the final value of each field is chosen by a source precedence rule that lists the rejected values.

  • Outcome and reasons for every check
  • Document fields with their source
  • Images in the case card with masking
  • A signed report

Good to know

A photo-based check confirms the procedures performed, not the absolute authenticity of the physical document: for chip passports, checking the chip signature over NFC is stronger.

Which documents are available in each country is defined by the approved country profile. The current list for your organisation is shown in the console.

Frequently asked questions

Which documents are supported?

For the first-wave countries, passports with a TD3 machine readable zone under ICAO 9303; other document types are enabled by the country profile. See the coverage page for the list per country.

Can a document be reviewed manually?

Yes. When the policy sends a case to manual review, your experts see the materials with masking and record an assessment with a reason. Every action is written to the audit log.

How does the applicant take the photo?

In the browser on the verification page, in the embedded widget, or in your app with the iOS and Android SDK. Quality hints appear before the image is sent.
