Face matching against the document and liveness
verkyc compares the applicant face with the photo from the document or the chip and checks that a live person is in front of the camera rather than an image or a recording. The result is a set of checks with outcomes and the thresholds of your policy.
What is checked
1:1 matching
The face on video or a photo is compared with one reference image: from the document or from the chip. There is no search across face databases.
Liveness
Passive liveness from a short video and an active scenario with random actions: head turns, blinking, a smile.
Camera substitution
Session continuity and capture integrity are checked separately: the frames must come from the same session and the same channel.
Image quality
Lighting, pose and face size are assessed during capture; with poor quality the applicant tries again.
Minimum biometric data
- Biometric templates are computed in an isolated executor and are not stored.
- Age, gender, ethnicity and other characteristics are never inferred from the face: age is calculated only from the date of birth in the document.
- Your policy sets the match threshold and what an outcome leads to; the match result is stored as a separate check of the case.
- Biometric processing is enabled only with a legal basis stated in the country profile and the legal profile of your organisation.
Good to know
We do not publish marketing accuracy figures. Model metrics are measured on approved datasets when a model is released and are available to customers together with the model version.
In the browser the check uses the device camera without the microphone; in an app with the SDK, hardware device attestation and signing of capture data are available.
Frequently asked questions
Which photo is the face compared with?
With the photo from the document or, when the document was read over NFC, with the portrait from the chip. The reference source is stated in the check result.
Is biometric data stored?
Face templates are not stored. The case keeps the video and images for the retention period of your policy, and the match result.
Can age be checked from the face?
No. Face-based age estimation is not used as evidence: age thresholds are checked against the date of birth in the document.
